They allege that Annamalai was trying to instigate clashes in the State
The Popular Front of India’s (PFI) Tamil Nadu unit has lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police’s office demanding the arrest of BJP State president K. Annamalai.
PFI’s State unit secretary M. Nagoor Meeran and Chennai zone secretary O.M. Fakir Mohammed alleged that the recently released audio message by Mr. Annamalai gave the impression that the BJP had been planning an act of conspiracy.
The BJP leader had asked his party cadre to be vigilant and stay safe since the PFI might retaliate against the party based on a speculative ban on the outfit. The PFI leaders alleged that Mr. Annamalai, knowing full well the consequences, was attempting to instigate clashes in the State.
Meanwhile, City Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal responded to questions raised by reporters after a public event on Monday. He said, “No specific complaint has come (in this regard). Anyone may take steps to protect members of any particular group without creating any alarm in the society. As far as we are concerned, if there is any specific information, we will take steps. Intelligence has been activated following an incident in Kerala. We will also enhance protection if required. No complaint has come.”
To a question about Mr. Annamalai’s audio message, which has been allegedly termed ‘alarming’, the Police Commissioner said, “We will get a legal opinion if any complaint comes from the public, and we may take action.”
