District Police inaugurates Advanced Control and Command Centre for real-time monitoring of CCTVs, patrol vehicles, and police stations.
The District Police have opened an Advanced Control and Command Centre at Ramanthapuram Town Camp Office for real-time monitoring of CCTVs and surveillance of check-posts, patrol vehicles and police stations under Ramanathapuram sub-division.
Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh formally inaugurated the command centre on Friday.
The SP said the new facility was first of its kind and not just a room to monitor video footages of closed circuit television cameras. Police had installed some 120 CCTV cameras across major junctions, demonstration sites, bus stands and the Collectorate under Ramanathapuram Town, Bazaar, Kenikkarai and Devipattinam police stations.
“The video footages of all the cameras are available live at the command centre. The police in the sub-division need not go from shop to shop seeking video footages after a case of chain-snatching by bike-borne robbers is reported,” the SP said.
Besides, 17 automatic number plate recognition cameras had been installed at critical entry and exit points of the sub-division. “These cameras can record the registration number of even moving vehicles, which will help the police to track the movement of suspected vehicles,” Mr. Chandeesh said.
Similarly, the police had deployed 20 artificial intelligence-enabled cameras at identified crime hotspots.
“In some cases, the victims fail to note down the registration number of accused vehicles. They could only give other identifications such as colour of the shirt or bikes or helmets of the accused. The AI-enabled cameras can track the suspects using specific features like dress colour, bike colour, helmet, and other identifiable details,” Mr. Chandeesh said.
