Police crack 65 theft cases with the arrest of 114, recover articles worth nearly ₹80 lakh

Kalaburagi City Police crack 65 theft cases, recover valuables worth ₹80 lakh, urge public to enhance home security.
The Kalaburagi City Police, who have launched a drive to quell theft cases, have cracked 65 such cases with the arrest of 114 accused, while recovering 936.19 grams of gold jewellery worth ₹53.16 lakh, 1,908.8 grams of silver ornaments worth ₹1.33 lakh, electronic items estimated at ₹25,54,500, apart from ₹3.40 lakh in cash from the accused.
Police Commissioner Sharanappa S. Dhage on Monday conducted a property-return parade at the Police Commissionerate Office and handed over the recovered valuables worth nearly ₹80 lakh, in all, to their rightful owners.
Dr. Dhage told presspersons that the police cracked 25 house break-in cases that happened during the night, six such cases that were reported during the day, five thefts in houses and 29 ordinary theft cases for a total of 65.
After returning the stolen property to the complainants, Dr. Dhage appealed to them to take safety steps to protect house break-ins and explained to them the importance of installing CCTV cameras, burglar alarms, motion detectors outside houses.
He also advised them to use interlock systems that can make the house more resistant to forcible entry. He suggested that they keep gold ornaments in bank lockers and avoid sharing their holiday plans on social media.
Citing the examples of theft cases in which car drivers, domestic help and relatives have been the main accused, the officer asked them to employ domestic help or a car driver only after going through comprehensive background checks and police verification to track their history and ensure a safe and trustworthy hire.
