Arvind Kejriwal accuses BJP of cheating Jaat community in Delhi by not adding them to central OBC list.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday (January 9, 2025) alleged that the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has been “cheating” the Jaat community of Delhi by not adding them to the Central government’s Other Backward Classes (OBC) list, despite multiple promises.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP have done a big fraud. There is an OBC list of the Delhi government and the Jaat community is part of it. The central government has an OBC list, but Delhi’s Jaat community is not part of it. So, when students go to take admission at any central government university or central government bodies such Delhi Police or DDA, Delhi’s Jaat community does not get reservation,” Mr. Kejriwal said while addressing a press conference.
“Interestingly, Rajasthan’s Jaat community is on the central government’s OBC list. So, Rajasthan’s Jaat community gets reservation in Delhi University, but Delhi’s Jaat community does not get reservation,” he added.
He alleged that in the last 10 years, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister had four times given assurances to Delhi’s Jaat community that they will be made part of the central government’s OBC list, but they lie and remember the Jaat community only during elections.
The AAP supremo said that he wrote to the Prime Minister on Wednesday (January 8, 2025) to fulfill his promises to the Jaat community. “If the central government does not fulfill their promise, today Kejriwal is promising to the Jaat community that I will fight with the central government for you and get it done,” he said.
Mr. Kejriwal said that there are five other castes that are part of Delhi’s OBC list, but not part of central government’s OBC list, and they should also be made part of the Centre’s OBC list.
