Mayor Joe Savikataaq Jr. confirmed it's his daughter, Kadin Savikataaq, the community is searching for.
Arviat RCMP said they responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision approximately two kilometres east of Arviat, in the area known as "the point" on Tuesday.
"While one of the occupants has been located, the other, a female occupant identified as Kadin Savikataaq, has not been located," the RCMP wrote in a statement to CBC.
The RCMP said they continue to search for Kadin in co-ordination with Search and Rescue and the Coast Guard.
