Speeding TNSTC bus crashes into coconut grove, injuring passengers and causing traffic chaos in Sholavandan.
Three passengers suffered simple injuries when a speeding TNSTC bus jumped into a road-side coconut grove at Tiruvedagam near Sholavandan in the district on Friday.
The police said that the bus driver, proceeding to Madurai from Sholavandan, lost control of the vehicle and it jumped to the right side of the road and then to the grove.
The bus stopped after hitting a coconut tree, which consequently fell across the road bringing the vehicular traffic on the road to a grinding halt.
A few passengers travelling in the bus suffered injuries in the impact of the accident. Three of them were rushed to the Government Hospital by an ambulance. The front portion of the bus was badly damaged.
Only after the local villagers cut down the coconut tree and removed it from the road, traffic could be restored. However, electric supply in the area was affected as the falling coconut tree damaged the overhead power cables.
Two naturalists have spotted the saffron reedtail, a rare species of damselfly endemic to the Western Ghats of India, for the first time in Karnataka. They found the damselflies, referred to as Indosticta deccanensis, in the forests along the Nethravati river in Madhugundi village near Sunkasale in Chikkamagaluru district last year. Earlier, the damselflies were noticed in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
