Kalaburagi district unit of Akhila Bharat Lingayat Diksha Panchamasali Samaj condemns MLA's anti-reservation remarks, demands OBC status.
Strongly condemning the statement made by Aland MLA B.R. Patil asking the Panchamsali Samaj to fight for the values enshrined in the Constitution instead of demanding reservation, the Kalaburagi district unit of the Akhila Bharat Lingayat Diksha Panchamasali Samaj termed the legislator’s remarks as highly objectionable.
District president of the Samaj Sharanabasappa M. Pappa, addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, said that the Panchamasali Lingayat Community has been demanding 2A category tag under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation since 1994.
The Panchamasali movement led by Basava Jaya Mruthyunjaya Swami of Kudalasangama Panchamasali Peetha took out a 700-km-long padayatra.
Both BJP and Congress leaders cutting across party lines participated in the movement, but Mr. Patil is now trying to mislead the people through such statement, Mr. Pappa said.
Though the Lingayat Panchamasali community has the highest share of the State’s population, the community is yet to see financial growth as a majority of Lingayat Panchamasali families are living below poverty line, Mr. Pappa added.
Mr. Patil used Panchamasali Jagadguru for his own gain and now he is objecting to the demand for reservation for Lingayat Panchamasali, Mr. Pappa said and accused the legislator of adopting double standards.

The Karnataka government has drafted a comprehensive master plan for the integrated development of Kukke Subrahmanya temple, the State’s highest revenue-generating temple managed by the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department. The redevelopment initiative is estimated to cost around ₹254 crore and aims to enhance infrastructure and facilities for devotees.
