
Palakkad Division confident of completing Mangaluru Junction station development work by April

Southern Railway's Palakkad Division nears completion of Amrit Bharat Station Scheme works at Mangaluru Junction by April 2025.
Achieving over 80% physical progress in the development work under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) at Mangaluru Junction (MAJN) Railway Station, Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division is confident of completing all the sub-work before April 2025.
MAJN was among the four stations in Dakshina Kannada included under ABSS for development at an estimated cost of ₹19.32 crore following efforts by the then MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had virtually inaugurated ABSS works across the country on August 6, 2023.
Circulating and parking area
Widening of clogged approach roads to MAJN, from Naguri and Padil, both connecting Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway 75, were in advanced stages of completion when The Hindu visited the station on Friday (March 20, 2025). Nearly 7,000 sqmt expansive circulating area in front of the station entrance was concreted and beautified to facilitate vehicular movement, dropping and picking of passengers. A large 1,632 sqmt parking area for four-wheelers and two-wheelers was also nearing completion. Physical progress of these two sub works was pegged at 89% by officials.
Tentative date of completion for all works is March 31, 2025

The new entrance porch spanning 155 sqmt was almost complete adding beauty to the station and facilitating hassle-free entry and exit for passengers with 75% physical progress. Work on a 176 sqmt air-conditioned waiting hall and 11 sqmt restroom for disabled passengers too was under progress with 60% progress.
