Padmapuram Botanical Gardens in Araku Valley reopens after renovation with new attractions, including bamboo canopy walk and glow garden.
Padmapuram Botanical Gardens, one of the tourist hotspot in Araku Valley was reopened to visitors after completion of renovation work, in Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Tuesday.
The renovation works were taken up with nearly ₹1 crore by the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Paderu.
As per the authorities, right from the new entrance arch gate, most of the park was renovated. A new 300-metre bamboo canopy walk and illuminated walkway were set up. Besides, a 3.5 km armoured electric cable was laid to illuminate entire corridors. To attract the tourists, a glow garden, rock fountains were also developed. The authorities have also arranged children play arena, took up landscaping works and new seating etc. Already the Padmapuram Gardens now has a facility of tethered hot air balloon, as an additional attraction. The tourist spot receives 10,000 tourist footfall during winters and weekends

Built in 1927 during the British era, this marketplace has been a hub of activity for decades, offering everything from fresh produce and flowers to meat, dry fruits and exotic spices. However, years of neglect, accidents and infrastructure wear and tear have taken a toll on this heritage structure. During the 2012 fire incident at the market, more than 170 out of 440 shops, and the general infrastructure of the market was destroyed. The shops were given a basic makeover then. Since then, only the exterior of the market has been renovated, leaving the interiors and the roof untouched for more than a decade.
