Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi supports journalist Mohammed Zubair accused by UP police for reporting on hate speech.
Hyderabad parliamentarian Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday (November 28, 2024) expressed solidarity with fact-checker and Alt News journalist Mohammed Zubair.
Mr Zubair, according to Alt News’ statement on X, formerly Twitter, was reportedly accused by the Uttar Pradesh police in an affidavit of “endangering the sovereignty and unity of India”. The case is connected to an FIR against him for tweeting about a hate speech by controversial preacher Yati Narsinghanand.
Taking to X, Mr Owaisi said, “Speaking & reporting on hate speech is a crime according to Uppolice while a serial genocide-inciter continues to roam freely. We stand with @zoo_bear & all persecuted journalists.”
