As many as 274 government schoolchildren from across Tamil Nadu will take part in the annual workshops organised by the School Education Department in Chennai, which will be held from March 24 to March 26, 2025.
According to an official from the department, the workshops are the culmination of the club activities conducted throughout the year in government schools. Children from Classes 6-9, who won in the State-level competitions conducted by the literary, movie, and quiz clubs, will be attending these workshops. A total of 80 students from the literary forum, 80 students from the quiz forum, and 114 from the movie forum will participate in the three-day workshops.
In an effort to encourage students to improve their non-academic abilities, the schools were instructed to constitute these forums in 2022. Two periods are being allocated each week for these activities. All the clubs are headed by the headmaster, besides a teacher in charge and a student as secretary. Through block-level and district-level competitions, the students are chosen to participate in the State-level workshops.
“The workshops will help build the students’ strength in their respective clubs, such as essay writing in the literary club and general knowledge in the quiz club, among others,” the official added.
As part of the three-day programme, the students will also take part in exposure visits to Fort St. George, the Government Egmore Museum, and the Guindy Children’s Park. At the end of the programme, the students are expected to bring out a magazine and conduct a mock quiz, the official added.
