Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin opposes BJP's anti-federal activities, advocates for State autonomy at Communist Party conference.
“The Tamil Nadu government’s resolution against delimitation is to protect the State autonomy and to fight against the anti-federal activities of the BJP in the Centre,” said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
He spoke at the conference on ‘India’s strength is federalism’ (Kootatchi Kotpade Indiavin Valimai) organised by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) as part of the 24th party congress in Madurai on Thursday (April 3, 2025).
The fight against the Central government’s authoritarianism started way back in 1974 when the then Chief Minister and DMK founder C.N. Annadurai passed a resolution in the State Assembly for the State’s autonomy, he recalled.
But the BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi by proposing ideas such as one country, one election, one food, one culture was striving for the creation of a unitary system, Mr. Stalin noted.
“The effort towards a singular order of governance will only strengthen one person and associates closer to the power,” he added.
Stressing that it would only lead to fascism, Mr. Stalin proposed that the only way to destroy their efforts was through constant campaign and a change in governance in the Centre.
“When Mr. Modi could ask about the progress of Sarkaria commission and Punchhi commission in 2012 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, what steps he had taken to implement the recommendations of the commission,” he added.
