Officials alerted to water crisis, heat wave, power supply issues in Yadgir district of Karnataka

Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela instructed officials to be proactive while dealing with drinking water shortage, heat wave conditions in Yadgir district of Karnataka.
Chairing a meeting of officials on March 19 to discuss pre-monsoon and heat wave conditions in Yadgir, she said, “Management of drinking water should be the prime concern owing to rising temperatures and heat wave. Officials should test the quality of water that is supplied under gram panchayats and also urban local bodies. The panchayats and urban local bodies should create awareness if the water supplied is found to be unfit for human consumption.”
Tahsildars and executive officers of respective taluks, executive engineers of the rural drinking water supply department and officials of local bodies should join hands and work in coordination to find out if any contaminated water has got mixed in potable water supplied to the people, and take immediate action, Dr. Susheela said.
Officers should submit a proposal on the availability of stored water in the Krishna and Bhima rivers to meet the demand of human beings and animals, and also for crops.
“The district may receive pre-monsoon rainfall. Officials should create awareness among the public about lightning and rain-related incidents. The officers of GESCOM should actively monitor the situation and ensure proper electricity supply and replace dysfunctional transformers,” she said.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Lavish Ordia focused on mitigation of drinking water crisis. He advised the officers to ensure potable water to people in rural areas, and to attend to every call related to water problem.
