NIT-C to submit report on landslip-hit Vilangad to Kerala government in January 2025, focusing on rehabilitation efforts.
The National Institute of Technology-Calicut (NIT-C) is expected to submit a report to the Kerala government in January 2025 on the habitable areas in the landslip-hit Vilangad in Kozhikode district.
This was announced by Revenue Minister K. Rajan after a high-level meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday (December 4, 2024) on the rehabilitation efforts being taken up in those places.
The Minister said the NIT-C had conducted a study in Vilangad. The government had already received another report on the land survey of the area using drones. Mr. Rajan said that the residents of Vilangad and those in Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Wayanad would be given equal consideration while taking up rehabilitation works.
A special team of experts from the Kerala Agricultural University had been told to submit a report on the crops that can be cultivated in the disaster-struck areas. The government would release ₹2 crore to remove the debris accumulated in rivers. The Irrigation department would have to submit an estimated demand to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority for the purpose. Another 49.6 lakh would be released for the reconstruction works.
Mr. Rajan said that the government would ensure that all the residents who were staying in rented homes were receiving ₹6,000 a month. Two elders in families which lost their means of livelihood would be given ₹300 a day for 90 days.
Minister for Public Works P.A. Mohamed Riyas, Minister for Forest and Wildlife A.K. Saseendran, E.K. Vijayan, Nadapuram MLA, Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan, among others, were among those present.
