Nearly 85% attendance for Group-II Services Main exam in Visakhapatnam

APPSC conducted Group-II Services Main exam peacefully in Visakhapatnam despite protests, with high attendance and tight security measures.
The Group-II Services Main examination was conducted peacefully in the district on Sunday, even as Section 144 was imposed and drone surveillance deployed in view of the protests by a section of people demanding the postponement of the exam, from the past few days.
The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) conducted the examination in two sessions as scheduled despite protests from aspirants, at 16 centres in the district.
In the morning session, 9,391 candidates out of 11,030 allotted to Visakhapatnam district appeared for the exam with a 85.14 per cent attendance, while a total of 1,639 candidates were absent. In the afternoon session, 9,370 candidates out of 11,030 allotted, appeared for the exam with 84.95 per cent attendance. A total of 1660 candidates were absent.
Visakhapatnam Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad visited an examination centre at Andhra University campus, and expressed satisfaction with the facilities and security arrangements provided, a press release said. District Revenue Officer (DRO) B.H. Bhavani Shankar, meanwhile, monitored the situation at the control room in the district Collectorate.
Visakhapatnam Commissioner of Police Shankha Brata Bagchi said that all possible security services were provided to the examiners at all the centres, in view of recent protests by a group of aspirants across the State, including in the city, in the past few days.
Earlier, Group-II aspirants had staged a protest at Isukathota junction on the NH-16 stretch in the city on Saturday night, blocking the traffic for nearly two hours. They demanded that the State government clear the reservation roster before conducting the Group-II Mains examination.
A total of 92,250 aspirants have qualified for the Group-II Main exam at 175 centres to fill 905 vacant posts.
