Incarcerated MP Engineer Rashid on hunger strike shifted to RML Hospital; son appeals for proper medical care.
Incarcerated Member of Parliament (MP) Engineer Rashid, who is on a hunger strike for the past eight days, was shifted to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Delhi, after his “health deteriorated”, the MP’s son Abrar Rashid said on Friday (February 7, 2025).
“Engineer Rashid sahib has been shifted to RML Hospital Delhi amid deteriorating health conditions as hunger strike enters day 8. He is being forced to fight for his life while on a hunger strike. His deteriorating health is a direct result of the system’s cruelty and negligence,” Mr. Rashid, son of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) chairman, said.
MP Rashid’s son requested the authorities “to ensure proper medical care”. “He can’t be victimized for his political beliefs, his voice needs to be heard In the Parliament as he represents 40% of the population of J&K,” the MP’s son added.
MP Rashid, lodged at the Tihar Jail in an alleged terror funding case since 2019, is on a hunger strike over not being allowed to attend the current Parliament session. He was elected as MP from the Baramulla constituency last year. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has opposed his bail plea.
“The continued incarceration and deteriorating health of Engineer Rashid is a matter of serious concern. We appeal to the government and relevant authorities to address this issue urgently. Justice must not only be done but be seen to be done,” AIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said.
