
More than 9 lakh farmers benefited from kuruvai special package, says Minister

Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare M.R.K. Panneerselvam has said that 9,39,968 farmers benefited from the “kuruvai special package” schemes implemented by the government from 2022 to 2024.
Addressing farmers at a meeting organised at Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district on Friday to ascertain the requirements and needs of farmers to incorporate them in the “Agriculture Budget” to be presented by the government along with the State General Budget, the Minister said that 3,31,428 farmers benefited from the kuruvai special package scheme implemented in the year 2022, another 3,27,580 in the year 2023, and 2,80,960 in the year 2024.
While ₹61 crore was disbursed as kuruvai special package scheme assistances to farmers in the year 2022, ₹75 crore was spent in the year 2023 and ₹78 crore in 2024 under this scheme.
Apart from this, about 56 lakh farmers benefited to the tune of ₹6,544 crore through crop insurance and drought assistance extended by the government so far.
Stating that a total of 1,267 petitions from 1,860 farmers during 2021-2024 period, the Minister said that of 1,267 grievances/demands, 719 had been fulfilled.
A total of 32 farmers from Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, and Mayiladuthurai districts had submitted their grievances and demands at the meeting held in Kumbakonam on Friday, according to official sources.
