The blast was caught on a surveillance video of a boat exploding around 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
Five people were transported to a hospital in the area, according to the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue (FLFR).
Three of those had traumatic injuries.
“The sixth was missing in the water and located by BSO after a lengthy search, deceased unfortunately,” the FLFR said.
Fire and rescue added that the cause of the fire is under investigation and teams from the U.S. Coast Guard, police department and other agencies are assisting.
