Mohun Bagan Super Giant wins Indian Super League trophy with 2-1 victory over Bengaluru FC in final.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant completed a grand double as it lifted the Indian Super League trophy with a 2-1 win over Bengaluru FC in the final at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Saturday.
Bengaluru went ahead early in the second half after an own goal by Bagan defender Alberto Rodriguez.
The home side found the equaliser through a penalty by Jason Cummings before Jamie Maclaren produced the winner in the first half of extra-time.
Bagan, which had won the League Shield earlier in the season, became the second team to achieve the double after Mumbai City FC (2020-21).
The visitors dominated the opening half and were unlucky in not finding the back of the net.
However, Bengaluru was rewarded for its efforts immediately after the break when Bagan centre-back Rodriguez put the ball into his own goal while trying to clear an attempt from Bengaluru forward Ryan Williams.
Bagan came alive after the hour-mark when head coach Jose Molina brought in Ashique Kurunian and Sahal Abdul Samad for Liston Colaco and Anirudh Thapa. The team equalised in the 72nd minute through Cummings’ penalty, turning the contest on its head.
