J&K regional parties and tourism players strongly condemn Pahalgam attack, emphasizing visitor safety and justice for victims.
J&K regional parties and tourism players on Tuesday (April 22, 2025) strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack, which left several tourists dead and injured in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Former J&K Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti said such violence was unacceptable and must be denounced. “Historically, Kashmir has welcomed tourists warmly, making this rare incident deeply concerning. A thorough investigation is needed to bring the perpetrators to justice and examine potential security lapses. Ensuring visitor safety is paramount, and steps must be taken to prevent future attacks,” Ms Mufti said.

Hurriyat chairman and Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed it as “deeply disturbing”. “Such violence is unacceptable and against the ethos of Kashmir which welcomes visitors with love and warmth. Condemn it strongly. Thoughts and prayers with the families of victims and wishing speedy recovery to the injured,” the Mirwaiz said.
CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami, J&K Peoples Conference (JKPC) chief Sajad Lone and J&K Apni Party (JKAP) president Altaf Bukhari also condemned the attack and sought “a stringent action against the attackers”.
The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), a traders body in Kashmir, also expressed deep anguish over the attack on tourists in Pahalgam and strongly condemned this dastardly act of violence.
“The authorities should investigate this gruesome attack on a fast-track basis and ensure that the culprits are swiftly brought to justice. The KCCI believes this targeted attack is clearly designed to harm Kashmir’s reputation and undermine the flourishing tourism industry. Such acts of violence go against the hospitable nature of Kashmiri people who have always welcomed visitors with open arms,” the KCCI said, in a statement.
