Pointing to hazardous chemicals causing adverse impacts on the environment, Nara Bharath Reddy, MLA for Ballari city, advised agro traders to be careful while selling chemical-based fertilisers, pesticides, insecticides, weedicides, and other agricultural inputs.
“The inputs you sell to the farmers not just decide their future but also impact the environment. It would be best if you always kept in mind the farmers’ interests and environmental concerns along with your own interests while selling the farm inputs. You have a greater role to play in conserving the environment as well as strengthening farmers’ economic stability,” Mr. Reddy said.
He was addressing the agro traders after distributing diploma certificates to them at a private hotel in Ballari on Thursday. The event was jointly organised by the National Institute of Agriculture Extension Management, Hyderabad, the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, and Department of Agriculture, Ballari.
“You can get money and lead a comfortable life only when farmers are in good condition. If farmers are in distress, you will be in trouble. Keeping this in mind, you must always sell good quality farm inputs to the farmers so that they can get good profits in agriculture. The business of farm inputs requires intelligence and dedication. Not everybody can do it. Only those who live with the farmers, easily mingle with them, maintain cordial relationships with the farmers and possess communication skills to convince the farmers can do it,” Mr. Reddy said.
