CPI(M) urges Bangladesh government to protect Hindus and minorities, condemns Hindutva forces in India.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau on Thursday (November 28, 2024) expressed concern about the situation of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh and urged the Muhammad Yunus interim government to act on their safety and security.
“The situation of the Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh is continuing to cause concern. Various incidents have occurred that threaten their safety and security. At a time when fundamentalist forces are active to create a communal divide, the Bangladesh authorities are yet to take firm steps to curb communal attacks. For the sake of peace and harmony, the Bangladesh interim government has to act without delay,” the Polit Bureau said in a statement.
The Polit Bureau also condemned Hindutva forces in India, alleging that they were “indulging in wild and incendiary propaganda” amid the ongoing situation.
“Their (Hindutva groups’) motives are suspect since it is these very forces who are responsible for Muslim-baiting as well as targeted attacks on minorities here. Divisive politics based on religious communalism is harmful both for Bangladesh and India,” it added.
