MKU Academic Council meeting discusses policy, administrative matters

The need for guidelines on how to assign classes under ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ Scheme without interfering with the regular classes, conduct of grievance redress meetings and merger of Madurai Kamaraj University College with the university were some of the topics discussed at the Academic Council meeting of Madurai Kamaraj University held on Thursday.
E. Sundaravalli, Commissioner of Collegiate Education and Chairperson of Convener Committee, chaired the meeting. The professors who participated in the meeting pointed out various issues with regard to implementation of ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ Scheme. They also said examination results should not be announced more than a month later. They were told that the evaluation would begin on time to ensure that there was no delay in releasing the exam results.
R. Ganesan, Principal, P.K.N. Arts and Science College, Tirumangalam, said the pending semester remuneration bills should be settled at the earliest. He also sought conduct of grievance redress meeting yearly once or twice. The council members said placing of complaint boxes on the premises of colleges and the university could also be explored to receive complaints and resolve issues.
G. Prabhakaran, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, Thiagarajar College (Autonomous), Madurai, sought details of the amounts transferred from the GPF account in Madurai Kamaraj University College to other accounts. Constitution of a committee to look into the issue was stressed.
P. Selvi, Associate Professor, Department of History, Sri Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women (Autonomous), Madurai, emphasised the need to give permanent affiliation to all government colleges affiliated to the MKU.
M. Sulthan Ibrahim, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science, Government Arts College, Veerapandi, and A. Velanganni Joseph, Professor and Head, Youth Welfare Studies, MKU, stressed that UGC Care list/ Scopus publications should not be insisted in the regulations of submission of Ph.D Thesis as it was not mandatory.
Some of the other issues discussed was waiver of the affiliation fees for government colleges to start research courses and permission for candidates to clear arrear examinations in one sitting in genuine cases. The issue of timely promotion for teaching and non-teaching staff was also discussed at the meeting.
