Missing Oregon hikers rescued from backcountry after writing ‘SOS’ in snow
Fox News
The two 19-year-old hikers went camping on Swastika Mountain near Eugene, Oregon, on or around Christmas Day but failed to return by Dec. 29, authorities said.
But a recent heavy snowfall in the area had covered the mountain roads, making the ground search difficult. To help find the missing men, the sheriff’s office requested help from the Coast Guard’s MH-65 aircrew.
During the search for the hikers, the aircrew located two other individuals in distress and gave their location to the sheriff’s office ground team, the Coast Guard said.
