Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu distributed welfare measures worth ₹73.95 crore to 3,270 beneficiaries at an event organised at S.T. Hindu College in Nagercoil on Saturday.
The assistance was given from the departments of Agriculture, School Education, Horticulture, TADCO, Fisheries, Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, MAWS and Mahalir Thittam.
The Minister laid the foundation stone for various projects across the district which includes additional building at Kulasekaram government hospital at the cost of ₹5 crore and roadwork at 13 town panchayats under NABARD at a cost of ₹18.58 crore.
Mr. Thennarasu highlighted the key projects and schemes set to be implemented under the budget for 2025-26 in Kanniyakumari district. He announced that an additional boat jetty at the Chinnamuttom at the cost of ₹2,722 crore would be developed to facilitate tourism in Kanniyakumari.
He mentioned that 1,257 beneficiaries had been selected from Kanniyakumari district for the allocation of housing under the “Kalaignar Kanavu Illam” scheme, which includes 240 tribal people from Pechiparai region . Additionally, 706 families from Kanniyakumari district had been identified to provide free pattas as announced by the State government.
District Collector R. Alagumeena, Superintendent of Police R. Stalin, MLAs Mano Thangaraj, Tharahai Cuthbert, Nagercoil Mayor R. Mahesh and officials were present.
