Millie Bobby Brown speaks out against media scrutiny of her appearance, calling it "bullying" in powerful Instagram video.
Millie Bobby Brown has called out the media for its relentless scrutiny of her appearance, labeling it as “bullying.” The Stranger Things star, who has been in the public eye since childhood, shared a powerful video on Instagram addressing the disturbing articles written about her body and face.
The 21-year-old British actress recently faced body-shaming following her appearance at The Electric State tour, with critics unfairly claiming she looked older than her age. In her video, Brown reflected on how growing up in the spotlight has led to unrealistic expectations. “For some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me. Instead, they expect me to stay frozen in time,” she said.
She specifically called out damaging headlines, including “Why are Gen Zers like Millie Bobby Brown ageing so badly?” and “What has Millie Bobby Brown done to her face?” Brown condemned these narratives, noting that even women journalists have contributed to the negativity. “This isn’t journalism. This is bullying,” she stated firmly.
The actress concluded her message with a call for change: “Let’s do better. Not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without fear of being torn apart for simply existing.”
Her video quickly went viral, amassing over 10 million views and drawing support from fans and celebrities alike. Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker commented, “Enormously proud of you.” Fellow actress Mckenna Grace added, “No young woman or person deserves to feel pressure or cruelty for simply existing.”
Brown, who rose to fame playing Eleven in Stranger Things, has long been vocal about the challenges of growing up in Hollywood. She will next star in Netflix’s The Electric State as well as the final season of Stranger Things later this year.
