Health Minister directs Delhi hospitals to prepare for potential HMPV outbreak, emphasizing timely isolation and adequate medical facilities.
In light of the two HMPV cases reported in Karnataka, Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj directed the Health Department to make the necessary arrangements for a potential outbreak in Delhi.
Following the Union Health Ministry’s advice, Mr. Bharadwaj said that all hospitals should be completely prepared to handle any potential increase in respiratory illness.
He added that the Health Secretary has been directed to inspect three hospitals daily and submit reports to the ministry regarding the availability of medicines and ICU beds, condition of equipment and PSA (Pressure Swing Absorption) oxygen plants.
An advisory by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to hospital heads directed them to ensure timely isolating of suspected cases, identifying facilities to treat severe cases which may require ventilator support, and spreading awareness among medical and paramedical staff.
Meanwhile, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal said on X, “The outbreak of the HMPV virus calls for immediate attention from the Centre. Drawing from our experience with COVID, it’s crucial to contain such cases early and be prepared to tackle what could potentially become another health emergency.”
