Volkswagen India to launch limited-edition Golf GTI and Tiguan R-Line in 2025, targeting niche car enthusiasts. Limited units available.
Volkswagen India is set to enhance the performance car segment with the launch of the highly anticipated Golf GTI and Tiguan R-Line in the second quarter of 2025. These models, known for their superior driving dynamics, will be imported as Completely Built Units (CBUs). Volkswagen plans to release 150 units of the Golf GTI and 300 units of the Tiguan R-Line, targeting a niche group of Indian car enthusiasts.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI has built a strong reputation for hot hatchback performance, and the Mk8.5 version continues this legacy with a refreshed design and enhanced features. The Mk8.5 is a facelift of the eighth-generation Golf GTI, bringing a modernized design, new tech features, and performance improvements. Sharper LED headlights, a redesigned front bumper, and a more aggressive rear stance give it a bold look while maintaining signature elements such as red accents and a honeycomb grille.
The international version of the Golf GTI (Mk8.5) comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, generating around 265 PS (261 hp) and 370 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission, delivering power to the front wheels with the help of an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. Since these units will be imported as CBUs, a similar configuration is expected for the Indian market. Globally, the GTI achieves a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of approximately 5.9 seconds, placing it among the fastest hatchbacks in its segment.
The interior combines modern technology with classic design elements, featuring Volkswagen’s latest Digital Cockpit, a 10-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the iconic plaid upholstery. Advanced driver assistance technologies, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and an enhanced Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system, make the Golf GTI a true driver’s delight.
The Golf GTI is expected to be priced around ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a premium yet thrilling option for performance car lovers in India.
