LIC pensioners’ association holds demonstration; puts forth various demands

All India Insurance Pensioners’ Association demands restoration of old pension scheme and other benefits from LIC.

All India Insurance Pensioners’ Association organised a demonstration at the divisional office of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) here on Friday.
They highlighted a series of demands, including the restoration of old pension scheme and an increase in the ex gratia for 1986 retirees, and called for their implementation by the Centre.
The demonstration, organised by the Vellore division of LIC Pensioners’ Association, was led by association secretary V. Sugumaran.
Other demands include protection of LIC and General Insurance Corporation by not increasing the Foreign Direct Investment limit beyond 74% in the insurance sector; increase of family pension for public sector general insurance family pensioners at a uniform rate of 30 per cent without ceiling; uniform dearness allowance for all pensioners; improvements in medical claim scheme; ex gratia for all pensioners without discrimination; cash medical benefit for domiciliary treatment and preventive health check-up and universal pension for all.
The protesters said that they would present a memorandum containing the demands to LIC’s Chief executive officer and Managing Director soon.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), probing the death of contractor, Sachin Panchal, who allegedly ended his life in Bidar on December 26 last year, arrested five persons, including the prime accused Rajkumar Kapnoor, a former member of the Kalaburagi Mahanagara Palike, and reportedly a follower of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, Priyank Kharge, on Friday.
