Kathy Bates' Reaction To Losing At Golden Globes Should Be The Gold Standard

The "Matlock" star had a noteworthy response to defeat at the awards show.
Kathy Bates appeared to tear up her acceptance speech after losing at the Golden Globes on Sunday. (Watch the video below.)
The “Matlock” star was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama. But Anna Sawai of “Shōgun” was announced as the winner.
As the reaction cam rolled for all the nominees, Bates applauded and then hilariously ripped a piece of paper in two. She reduced to pieces what seemed to be the words she had planned to say in case of victory.
Bates has done just fine anyway on the hardware front in a decorated career. She’s won multiple Golden Globes and Emmys, in addition to a best actress Oscar for “Misery.”
While promoting the reboot of “Matlock,” Bates, 76, appeared to announce earlier this year she was retiring soon from acting, before clarifying her remarks.
