Basavaraj Horatti considers resigning as Legislative Council Chairman due to declining debate standards and member behavior.
Basavaraj Horatti, Chairman of the Legislative Council said he was considering resigning from his post as he was upset with the fall in the standard of debate in the State legislature.
“These are bad times. The quality of debates in the Council and Assembly is falling. Even the general behaviour of members is deteriorating. That issues like honey-trap are surfacing in the session demonstrate the quality of our debates. I do not know if I should be there in such a House or if I should preside over it. I have been a member of the Council for over four decades. But now, I am contemplating resignation,” he told reporters in Hubballi on March 23, 2025.
“Politics is reaching very low levels. Members of the legislature are disobedient and do not follow the instructions of the Chair. It has forced me to introspect. I will take a decision after consulting my well-wishers,” he said.
To a query, he said there were some technical issues regarding the issue of resignation.” Once they are resolved, I will decide on it,” he said.
