The Dakshina Kannada district administration will organise the much-awaited Karavali Utsava from December 21 in Mangaluru as decided at a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner M.P. Mullai Muhilan here on Monday.

The fest would be inaugurated at the Karavali Utsava Grounds in the city amid display of the rich cultural heritage of the region. Different practices, cultures, language etc., would be presented to the audience in collaboration with different academies, Mr. Muhilan said.
One of the major attractions of the utsava, the Beach Festival, would be organised at Tannirbhavi and Panambur on December 28 and 29. The Yuva Utsava, offering the stage to young talents in the distfict, would be organised at the Kadri Park on January 4 and 5. The Kite Festival has been scheduled for January 17 and 18. Meanwhile, the Karavali Utsava Grounds would also host a food festival, the DC said.
The River Festival, intended to bring people closer to rivers, would be organised at Harekala near the Adyar-Harekala vented dam-cum-bridge. Dates would be notified later, Mr. Muhilan said. Having constituted different committees to organise events at the utsava, the DC asked them to start working on their briefs with immediate effect. The utsava this time is planned to be organised in an entirely different manner focusing at providing the best of the programmes to people.
Zilla Panchayat CEO K. Anandh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Siddarth Goel, Additional Superintendent of Police D. Rajendra, Additional DC G. Santosh Kumar, Mangalore Urban Development Authority Commissioner Noor Jahan Khannam and others were present.
District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao had earlier announced holding some cultural programmes of the Karavali Utsava at the Urban Haat of K. Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama.
