Renowned Kathakali maestro Kalamandalam Gopi views exclusive Navarasa Bhavas display at Cochin International Airport.
Renowned Kathakali maestro Kalamandalam Gopi visited the Business Jet Terminal at Cochin International Airport on Sunday (December 8) to view an exclusive display of his iconic Navarasa Bhavas.
The paintings, created by artist Mopasang Valath, preserve the subtleties and originality of the nine Rasa Bhavas as portrayed by Gopi Asan in his signature green costume. The project began a year ago, with Gopi Asan donning the full Kathakali attire to pose for photographs, which were later depicted in oil paintings on canvas.
Speaking about the initiative, Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) Managing Director S. Suhas emphasised the airport’s commitment to providing a cultural platform that goes beyond travel facilitation. “The Navarasa paintings at the Business Jet Terminal are part of the CIAL vision,” he said.
Expressing his joy, Gopi Asan highlighted the importance of institutions like CIAL taking up such cultural initiatives. “Classical art forms survive when they are nurtured and encouraged. Projects like this, especially in international spaces like airports, provide invaluable support to artists and showcase our cultural heritage to the world,” he said.
The project was coordinated by Kathakali scholar Rajasekhar P. Vaikom and featured contributions from notable figures, including renowned Kathakali singer Kottakkal Madhu. Present at the event were Airport Director Manu G., Executive Directors Saji K. George and Jayarajan V., and other dignitaries, according to a press release from CIAL.
