The Jalasiri project designed to augment drinking water supply infrastructure in the city has achieved 71% physical progress, according a report tabled by Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) at a meeting in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Monday.

Mayor Manoj Kumar had called the meeting to review the progress of the project and issues associated with regard to its implementation.
The report said that of the ₹821.97 crore project, the construction cost has been revised to ₹617.22 crore and ₹204.75 crore has been set aside for operation and maintenance of the infrastructure facilities created under the project for eight years.
It said that of the 52.57 km long clear water transmission line (CWTM) or main pipeline to be laid, 12.26 km is still not complete. This is because NHAI is yet to permit laying 2.95 km of the pipeline on NH 169 (Mangaluru-Moodbidri) and laying another 4 km from Padil to Mary Hill on NH 73. In addition, New Mangalore Port Authority is yet to permit the laying of a 770 m long pipeline.
According to the report, of 1,288.74 km distribution network pipelines to be laid, 558.54 km are awaited. In that, the NHAI will have to permit laying 28.8 km on the NH 169.
Of 19 over head tanks (OHTs) to be built, civil works of 10 OHTs completed and structural works of five OHTs are under progress and four OHTs are yet to be built.
The report said that of 96,300 houses to be provided with water connection, 71,288 are yet to be covered.
