With prevalence of paid news, it is important for the media to maintain credibility of news, said Alvas Education Foundation Chairman M. Mohan Alva in Mangaluru.
Speaking at the 5th district conference of Daksshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association on December 5, Dr. Alva said, “When paid new has come to stay it is important for the media houses to maintain integrity of news. False news is being projected as real news. Under the influence of politics, news is becoming a casuality. It is sad to see some media houses disregarding right to privacy in dissemination of news.”
“There is an onerous responsibility on the new generation of journalists to uphold the regard people have for newspapers. Journalists should do a lot of research before writing stories in newspapers,” Dr. Alva said adding, “This is necessary to build a strong society.”
Senior journalist K. Shivasubrahmanya called upon journalists not to fall for communal agenda. “Young reporters should not play up differences in regional languages,” Mr. Shivasubrahmanya said. “Print journalism will continue to stay despite growth of digital journalism. Journalists have to cultivate nuances of digital journalism to stay relevant to the present needs.” He asked young reporters to cultivate the habit of reading newspapers.
