TYCL awards quiz winners on Child Rights Day, promoting digital safety and ecological well-being among youth in Puducherry.
Prizes were presented to winners of a quiz competition conducted by the Trust for Youth and Child Leadership (TYCL), a youth-led, non-profit organisation, as part of the International Child Rights Day celebrations held recently.
The quiz contest featured students from grades 7, 8, and 9, representing 57 government and private schools across Puducherry, the theme of which was ‘Child Rights – Digital and Ecological Well-Being’.
The competition was aimed at raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and inspiring young minds to advocate for child rights, TYCL said in a press note.
The TYCL, which has held special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations since 2018, pursues a vision for 2030 of achieving ‘Three Zeros: Zero Youth Suicide, Zero Violence Against Children, and Zero Anti-Environmental Behaviour’ in Puducherry.
A Child Safe Online, a comprehensive training programme that equips children with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely, with focus on protection from online sexual abuse, safeguarding personal data, and screen time management, are among TYCL initiatives.
Child Rights Day celebrations focused on educating and inspiring the next generation to champion child rights while fostering a digitally safe and ecologically conscious society.
Among those who addressed the children during the celebrations were K. Anbu, Head, Department of Social Work, School of Social Sciences and International Studies, Pondicherry University, P. Joseph Victor Raj, founder of Puducherry Hope Foundation, Jugal Kishore, TYCL co-founder, and Chitra Shah, Director of Satya Special School.
