BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal ready to contest against State party president B.Y. Vijayendra if there are party elections.
BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal said in Vijayapura on Sunday that he will contest against State party president B.Y. Vijayendra if there is an election for the post.
“If elections are announced, I am sure to contest. My victory is guaranteed as I have the largest support among party workers and local leaders who are eligible to vote,” he told reporters.
Mr. Yatnal, who is identified as a leader of the group of dissenters who are opposed to Mr. Vijayendra’s leadership, said that he will fight the polls if his group wants him to.
“I am ready to take on anyone, including the incumbent State party president,” he said.
He said that Mr. Vijayendra is not loyal to the party but is seen visiting the houses of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
“We do not need such leaders. We need someone who can enthuse the workers,” he said.
He said that he did not attend a recent meeting called by BJP national general secretary Radha Mohandas Agarwal in Bengaluru. “Why do they need people like me? They have overwhelming support in the party already,” he said.
