Discover traditional handloom and handicrafts at ‘Vasantham’ exhibition in Visakhapatnam, supporting artisans and weavers.
A two-day handloom and handicraft exhibition ‘Vasantham’, being organised by the Crafts Council of Andhra Pradesh (CCAP), commenced at hotel Green Park in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The expo will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. till Monday (December 2).
The annual festival, being conducted over the past six years, showcases products in the categories of clothing, accessories, personal care, and home decor, among others. Traditional sarees from across the country, such as Kanchipuram, Gadwal, Chanderi, Assam and Illakals, in both conventional and modern designs have been displayed. Unique handcrafted potlis, handbags and footwear are also being showcased, according to a statement by CCAP.
Moreover, ‘Vasantham’ will showcase the revived craft of Telangana’s Ghanpur cluster, which specialises in bobbin lacework, cross-stitch embroidery, and tatting. Other handicrafts include paintings from the Gond tribe and embroidery from the Toda tribe of the Nilgiris mountains.
The exhibition is more than a weekend activity for shoppers as sales from the purchases will support the livelihoods of traditional artisans and weavers, many of whom struggle to sustain their traditional crafts, the statement added.
