In order to provide some cover from the scorching sun for the devotees and the public, Rameswaram Municipality has spread overhead a makeshift green shade net on East Car Street near Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple.
An official said the 240-metre-long green shade net was erected at a cost of ₹5 lakh. Also, six drinking water tanks were placed around the temple and at Agni Theertham seashore for the benefit of the devotees.
The local people want shade to be provided on North Car Street too as people who come to the temple from Agni Theertham seashore would be using the street to reach the ‘22 theerthams’ inside the temple.
Officials said they would take necessary steps to make similar arrangement on North Car Street too.

The sun is already high in the sky, beating down fiercely on our heads, when we reach Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace in Chamrajpet, Bengaluru. But inside the beautiful high-ceilinged structure, it is surprisingly pleasant, the interiors airy and light-filled. According to a plaque outside the two-storied edifice made out of wood, stone, mortar and plaster, construction here was started by Hyder Ali Khan in 1781 and completed by his son, Tipu Sultan, in 1791, eight years before the Tiger of Mysore would be killed by the British in 1799.
