Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan on Friday (February 28, 2025) alleged R.N. Ravi was appointed Governor of Tamil Nadu to implement the “agenda of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh” in the State.
Reacting to Mr. Ravi’s statement that students were being deprived of employment opportunities by preventing them from learning a third language, Mr. Thirumavalavan told reporters in Ariyalur that India had many States where people conversed in different languages. “Hindi is among them. Compelling people, whose mother tongue is Tamil, to learn Hindi yet again emphasises their oppressive attitude. It is not acceptable,” he said.
This not only applies to Tamil Nadu; Hindi should not be imposed in States where it is not the mother tongue, he added.
According to Mr. Thirumavalavan, Mr. Ravi was stressing a point like this to implement the “RSS agenda” of “One Nation One Language”. They are trying to turn Tamil-speaking people into Hindi-speaking people in the future, and to make Sanskrit the language of the country, next to Hindi. “The people of Tamil Nadu are clever and have great awareness. They will not be hoodwinked by the speeches of Mr. Ravi,” he said.
When asked to comment on his statement that no political move would take place in the 2026 Assembly election without the VCK, Mr. Thirumavalavan stated it was said to motivate his party cadre to prepare them to work hard in the upcoming elections. There is no need to read further into it, he said.
Earlier, Mr. Thirumavalavan, who is also the Member of Parliament of the Chidambaram constituency, held a review meeting with officials of various departments in Ariyalur on the progress of schemes implemented by the Union and State governments. Collector P. Rathinasamy and senior officials also took part in it.
Mr. Thirumavalavan asked them to expedite the implementation of the schemes, including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Prime Minister’s Rural Roads, Member of Parliament Local Area Development, and Jal Jeevan Mission.
