Germany urges probe into ‘shocking’ accusations on Gaza aid workers’ killing by Israeli Army

Urgent investigation needed into Israeli army's actions after video footage raises questions about attack on Gaza ambulances.

Germany on Monday (April 7, 2025) called for an urgent investigation into "shocking" accusations that Israeli forces knowingly fired on a convoy of ambulances in an attack that killed 15 aid workers in Gaza on March 23.

"There are very significant questions about the actions of the Israeli army now," Foreign Ministry spokesman Christian Wagner said after new video footage emerged raising questions about the circumstances of the attack.

"An investigation and accountability of the perpetrators are urgently needed," he said.

The death of 15 medics and humanitarian workers in Gaza in March after shots were fired at their ambulances sparked international condemnation.

The Israeli military has said its soldiers "did not randomly attack" any ambulances, insisting they fired on "terrorists" approaching them in "suspicious vehicles".

Military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani said that troops opened fire on vehicles that had no prior clearance from Israeli authorities and had their lights off.

But footage released by the Palestinian Red Crescent on Saturday appears to contradict the Israeli military's initial claims, showing ambulances travelling with their headlights on and emergency lights flashing.
