G.P. Raja Sekhar takes charge as the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University in Visakhapatnam
G.P. Raja Sekhar took charge as the new Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University here on Saturday.
The senior mathematics professor from IIT Kharagpur, will succeed Prof. Sashibhushan Rao, who was the in-charge V-C of AU since July last year, after the former V-C P.V.G.D. Prasad Reddy resigned from the post during June 2024.
Interacting with the media during a press conference after assuming charge, Prof. Raja Sekhar said that academic excellence and global excellence of Andhra University, will be his key priorities. He said that it was great honour and privilege to work in AU, which has produced several stalwarts.
Thanking the State government for the opportunity, Prof. Raja Sekhar said that he would take up the job not as a post or position, but as a responsibility. “There are lot of challenges, but I am sure, all the teaching, non-teaching staff, students, research scholars and other stakeholders will work together, strive hard to make AU achieve greater heights, show its potential to the world. Today, I have pledged that I would contribute to the growth of AU relentlessly and selflessly,” he said.
The new V-C has also stressed the need for making use of technology and also working inline with the State government to fulfil the dream of Vision 2047. He also said that focus will be on nurturing students to make them entrepreneurs.
Admitting that AU has some resource constraints like shortage of faculty and others, the new V-C said that he would coordinate with the State government to get things done for the varsity.
With his 24 years of experience and resources at IIT Kharaghpur, the new V-C has also assured to improve research activities in the university.
