Four-year delay in allotment of housing units at Kuppuchipalayam irks beneficiaries
Beneficiaries of the Kuppuchipalayam housing unit in Periyanaickenpalayam, Coimbatore, are expressing frustration over delay in the allotment of 1,800 newly constructed tenements. Despite having paid the full amount for ownership over the past four years, they are still waiting to take possession of their houses.
S. Sethu, a beneficiary, said, “We paid a total of ₹1,94,400 in 2020, but we still haven’t received the keys to our flats. We also paid maintenance charges for an entire year to the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB), with the promise that we would receive possession in October 2024. After a long struggle, 50 beneficiaries were allotted flats, but no electricity or water connections have been provided.”
Many of the beneficiaries belong to lower-income groups, and some have had to borrow loans to pay the sum, incurring interest, yet they are still without their houses.
The beneficiaries allege that both the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) and the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) have been passing responsibility back and forth. In response, they submitted a petition to the District Collector on Monday, urging immediate intervention and resolution of the issue.

The Karnataka government has drafted a comprehensive master plan for the integrated development of Kukke Subrahmanya temple, the State’s highest revenue-generating temple managed by the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department. The redevelopment initiative is estimated to cost around ₹254 crore and aims to enhance infrastructure and facilities for devotees.
