Focus on emergency treatment in hospitals, urges Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister

Minister emphasizes need for improved emergency care in hospitals to save lives, stresses importance of prompt medical response.
Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare M. Mathiventhan on Saturday stressed the importance of strengthening emergency care in hospitals to address critical gaps in patient treatment.
Speaking at the FICCI TANCARE 2025 – Health Care Excellence Awards, held in Coimbatore, the Minister highlighted the need for prompt medical response in emergency situations. “Lives are lost due to delays in emergency care such as patients waiting in ambulances or general wards without immediate attention. It is crucial to be prepared for unforeseen medical emergencies,” he said.
All healthcare personnel, including nurses and paramedics, should possess basic emergency response training to handle critical situations effectively. “The healthcare system must become patient-centric and treatment-specific. In today’s digital era, patients are well-informed due to the abundance of information available online,” he said.
Highlighting the Dravidian Model’s focus on welfare-driven governance, the Minister cited the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme as a testament to the government’s commitment to holistic development, including health and nutrition. The scheme has benefitted 1.14 lakh children across Tamil Nadu, he said.
The Minister presented FICCI awards under five categories.
The event was held on the theme “ Thinking for tomorrow, Today - Embracing Changes in Healthcare”. GSK Velu, chairman, FICCI Tamil Nadu State council, and Praveen Raj, Convenor, FICCI Tamil Nadu Healthcare Panel, were present.
