Farmer reaps good returns in strawberry cultivation in semi-arid Bidar district

Vishwajeet Nidoda, a civil engineer, successfully cultivates strawberries in Bidar district, reaping good income and inspiring fellow farmers.
A 28-year-old civil engineer has dared to venture into cultivating strawberries in the semi-arid region of Bidar district and is making good fortune.
Despite the climatic conditions, Vishwajeet Nidoda from Kamthana village in the district opted for cultivating strawberries on half-acre agricultural land using drip irrigation system and is successfully reaping good income.
He says that he is the first to experiment cultivation of this perennial fruit in the district.
Vishwajeet planted strawberry in September and started reaping fruits within 60 days. He irrigated the land using sprinkler before opting for drip irrigation. His father Vaijnath Nidoda has been the guiding force behind his every experiment, he added.
Speaking to The Hindu, Vishwajeet said that a box of berries weighing 200 grams is sold at ₹70 in the Bidar market and a tray comprising eight such boxes costs around ₹500.
The cultivation cost including labour is estimated at ₹2.5 lakh and he exudes the confidence of getting returns up to ₹5 lakh to ₹ 6 lakh from the half acre strawberry cultivation alone.
The father-son duo’s meticulous approach towards cultivation is yielding good returns.
