Doha, Qatar: The Public Policy Program of the School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy (SEAPP) of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) organized a high-level workshop on “ Design, analysis and Evaluation of Public Policies” in collaboration with the Excellence Center for Training and Consulting at the DI and the Iraqi Research Foundation for Analysis and Development (IRFAD).
The workshop lasted for three days, from December 10 to 12, 2024, and was dedicated to representatives from the Public Policy and Local Development Cabinet of the Iraqi Coordination Commission between governorates under the General Secretariat for the Iraqi Council of Ministries, and representatives from the local governments of Diwania and Muthanna governorates.
Dr Ayhab Saad, Dean of SEAPP, opened the workshop by welcoming the attendees and stressing the importance of achieving productive outcomes that can contribute to the formation and development of public policies.
The workshop focused on enhancing the participants’ understanding of public policies as a concept, and the challenges of formulating and applying them, particularly in the context of rentier economies, while emphasizing the impact of these policies on the preparation of public budgets.
A distinguished group of DI experts participated in the workshop where Dr Marwa Farag, Head of the Public Policy Program, presented a lecture on the foundations of policy formulation and analysis with comparative examples from the region. For his part, Dr. Laurent Lambert, Associate Professor of Public Policy, addressed the importance of strategic planning in the transition from a rentier economy to capacity-building and economic diversification.
