Youth must learn to appreciate their homeland and the opportunities it offers for personal and professional growth, said J. Radhakrishnan, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government, Department of Co-operation, Food, and Consumer Protection.
“If you consider the political and economic challenges faced by other countries, you will realise that India is a vibrant democracy. We must drop our cynicism and appreciate the professional opportunities and freedom of expression that we enjoy as citizens,” he said delivering the graduation day address at Shrimati Indira Gandhi College (SIGC) in Tiruchi on Saturday. Tamil Nadu was a silent achiever in many sectors, he said.
Citing former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s vision for India’s future, Mr. Radhakrishnan encouraged the graduates to contribute towards realising that dream. Time was ripe for educated youth to take up leadership positions.
A total of 1,205 students received their degrees at the graduation ceremony, including 83 rank holders.
SIGC Chief Executive Officer K. Chandraskeharan, secretary K. Meena, and principal P. Gajalakshmi were present.
