The California representative urged Americans not to be "helpless" after the president-elect's win.
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) called on Americans to not give up in an urgent message on Thursday following President-elect Donald Trump’s election win.
“Let’s get loud and let’s get going because if a young woman in Florida, where a six-week ban is now the law of the land, can get up today and find her way through, we can too,” said the California representative in an interview with Ben Meiselas for the progressive MeidasTouch Network.
He continued, “And if a soldier in a trench in eastern Ukraine, who just saw their best ally walk away from them, can keep fighting, we can too. And if a high school student who’s going to school today in a country that’s going to arm mass shooters to the teeth and they’re still going to get through it, we can too.”
Swalwell, who previously called on supporters to not go “quietly” after Kamala Harris’ loss, emphasized that it “sucks” to lose before turning his attention to Trump.
“I hate what this winner says about our country and the people who make it so great but we have work to do,” Swalwell said.
