Ensure adequate availability of sand, stone for the construction sector in Udupi district, says Udupi MLA

Udupi MLA urges Mines and Geology Department for timely sand and stone supply in Udupi district.
Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna on Friday, January 31, urged the Mines and Geology Department to ensure timely availability of affordable sand and stone for the construction sector in Udupi district.
He was speaking after inaugurating Khanija Bhavana, which houses the offices of the senior geologist of the department and its office at Doddanagudde in Udupi city. Mr. Suvarna said Udupi city was developing at a fast pace and was in need of adequate sand, stone and other materials for the construction of buildings, roads, bridges etc. Unhindered availability of the material would ensure timely development.
Mr. Suvarna wished the department officials would provide quality service to people in the district from the building constructed at a cost of ₹2 crore.
Udupi Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari said as many as 167 mining licenses were issued in the district to extract sand, clay, laterite stone, sand, silica sand, etc. As many as 45 stone crushing units were functional in the district. The department was in need of a suitable building to look after all these activities, she said.
Senior geologists Nanjundaswamy, J.U. Sandeep, Udupi Urban Development Authority chairman Dinakar Herur and others were present.
