Fox News
The National Park Service said Tuesday that the endangered ʻakēʻakē seabird had been documented emerging from its burrow on the Mauna Loa volcano for the first time.
The burrow was located by Slater, one of the Hawaii detector dogs, and under the guidance of trainer and handler Michelle Reynolds. Julia Musto is a reporter for Fox News and Fox Business Digital.
After Slater discovered the nests, wildlife cameras were installed to monitor the burrows.
